The 8 GB Atom Memory Stick

Posted by admin in Data Storage on 03 18th, 2008

Integrated circuits or ICs in a small package – this is what SiP or System-in-Package is all about. The SiP is usually the little part which is responsible for most of the functions of an electronic system such as what’s inside a mobile phone, personal computer, digital music player and flash memory sticks.

8 GB Atom Memory Stick

An atom on the other hand, makes up every matter that you can see, feel or touch here in the universe. Atoms are the most basic components of matter.

So how do you connect these two? It’s the Atom thumbdrive. Like atoms, this thumbdrive is so small relative to its memory and that is 8GB! This tinee-winee thumbdrive measures 30.5 x 13 x 5.6 mm, just about the size of an ordinary paper clip. This thumbdrive is embedded with SiP that utilizes NAND flash memory packaging processes to make the drive this small. It also has a 128-bit AES encryption software to protect the parts of the thumbdrive. It has a capless design with a small loop that allows it to attach small things to your Atom so you won’t forget your tiny memory stick.

Atom is just another proof that “Big things come in small packages”.
